Bob sent a text tonight with a couple of pictures of him at the Mexican Border.  He called a few minutes later, after he had begun hiking, to tell me about his trip from the airport to Campo (border and PCT trailhead).  He had to take a couple of buses to get from San Diego airport to Campo, which worked well, other than the second bus driver taking a long break halfway through the route.  Oh well, he finally got to the border at 6:30 PM and was excited to start his long adventure.

Well, he was off this morning very early. Part of his preparation was to remove all facial hair and shave his head.  I have never seen him without a beard, but I am sure it will be very long when he finishes! He walked to the lightrail downtown to get to the airport.  I offered a ride, but he wants to do it all on public transportation and, of course, walking.  He will begin his hike from the Mexican Border later this afternoon.  More to come later.....  Mary

Bob is in training and wearing his backpack everywhere, even to the NW Folklife Festival tonight.
